No Plastic? Fantastic! MIW Help London’s Borough Market to Bin the Bottle

Try as we might, it’s not very often that we hit the headlines at MIW Water Cooler Experts, so we find ourselves a little abashed – and not a little proud – to see our work splashed all over the news.

This summer, London’s Borough Market made the fabulous decision to enhance their green credentials by embarking on a ban of plastic drinking bottles. But, of course, you can’t just ban bottled water without offering an alternative, and that is where MIW came in… Well, who else would you go to, but the UK’s leading water cooler and fountain supplier, if you were looking for an innovative drinking fountain solution?

And what was our solution? The installation of three shiny new Halsey Taylor Endura II Tubular Bottle Filling Stations. Now, you’ve probably heard us mention these modern day drinking fountains before, but that’s because they’re a little bit special. Not only are they capable of hydrating three thirsty drinkers at once, but they’re also outdoor rated – so not at risk of rust or any other form of environmental corrosion – vandal-proof, in the event that any idiots happen to be in the vicinity, and really importantly, they’re also WRAS certified and wheelchair accessible. The clever bubblers have been designed to fill drinks bottles without spray or splashback or mess, and they’re so easy to use that the job’s done in moments, preventing any queues or faff.

That’s what makes the USA’s Halsey Taylor & Elkay drinking fountains the world’s best-selling products of their kind. And that’s why at MIW Water Cooler Experts, we’re so proud to be their UK Mater Distributor.

So that’s the product and that’s what’s happened, but why did the governing bods behind Borough Market make such a big decision as to ban the non-reusable bottle? Well, it’s all about pollution.

London is quite the pretty city these days; a lot of effort has been made to make it the global tourist attraction that it is, because although history is always a draw, there’s only so much that history can do if the contemporary streets are not pleasant to walk down. But there is still one part of the capital which struggles to maintain its standards, through no fault of its own; the River Thames.Outdoor Drinking Fountain Elkay Sports Bottle Refill Station

When it comes to London waste, all paths lead to Mother Thames. She’s the sad recipient of all of the everyday detritus that we so often ditch without thinking, and a recent study revealed that a startling 10% of all of the waste pulled out of the Thames is plastic drinks bottles.

In installing free-to-use drinks bottle fillers, the team behind Borough Market are doing their bit to help cut plastic bottle pollution. The question is: when are you going to do yours?
